Swiss company Sonova is a global leader in innovative hearing care solutions. The company is active through two segments: Hearing Instruments (more than 90% of revenues) and Cochlear implants. The company has research facilities in Switzerland, Canada, and the US, and manufacturing plants in Switzerland, Germany, China and Vietnam. Its distribution is handled by its in-house wholesale network and independent sales partners, while it also owns retail outlets in a few countries. The group’s globally diversified sales and distribution channels allow it to be present in more than 100 countries (half of revenues generated in EMEA, one third in the US, and the rest in the Americas and Asia/Pacific), as it holds around one fourth of the global hearing aid market in sales. The group was founded in 1947 and consists of more than 30 companies.
Investment rationale
Nearly 2.5 billion people worldwide will be living with some degree of hearing loss by 2050, and at least 700 million of these people will require hearing care and other rehabilitation services. Our ability to hear is precious and untreated hearing loss can have a devastating impact on people’s ability to communicate, to study, and to earn a living. It can also impact people’s mental health and their ability to sustain relationships. With its offering of hearing aids, audiological care services, and cochlear implants, Sonova helps people with impaired hearing to improve their quality of life.
In addition, the company has undertaken several initiatives to ensure the accessibility of its devices in remote and underserved markets. Through its non-profit 'Hear the World Foundation', established in 2006, the company supports project partners in LATAM, EMEA, and APAC with technology, financial resources and expertise, focusing on children with hearing loss, enabling them to develop and giving them a better chance.
