Frontier Energy is a Danish-based private equity firm that invests in renewable energy projects in sub-Saharan Africa. Their aim is to create long-term value with 18 hydro, solar, wind, and geothermal projects under development. To do that, they invest heavily in local teams to work with the communities where they have active investments. With a team of Community Liaison Officers, they work over the course of two, three years to empower the communities most affected by the project. They especially look towards women as a source of guidance for what the society needs and what the challenges are. In addition to this, Frontier Energy actively seeks to hire as many female workers at all levels of the project. It has an average of about 30% female workforce depending on the area in which the power project is being constructed. With such a strong focus on the gender perspective in renewable energy, Frontier Energy differentiates itself by focusing on the social aspects of the energy transition story.
