Investment rationale

AFD finances projects contributing to access to essential services and/or socioeconomic advancement and empowerment in developing and emerging countries, fitting to multiple SDGs and transition themes. A wide range of projects is included in its SDG bonds, including education in underserved regions, optimization of transportation, social protection program of diseases etc.

Alignment with Triodos Transitions: In total 100.0% of the proceeds of the impact bond is aligned with one or more Triodos Transitions. 44.6% of proceeds is allocated to the Societal Transition, 43.4% of proceeds is allocated to the Energy Transition and 12.0% of proceeds is allocated to the Wellbeing Transition.

AFD also launched a climate bond framework to finance climate adaptation and climate mitigation projects in developing countries. The positive impact from these projects is very strong, as the impact of climate change is felt hardest in developing countries. The proceeds from these climate bonds are used to grant loans for projects in the following categories: Climate Adaptation, Biodiversity Preservation, Biological Sequestration, Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy, Transport, Water and Waste Management.
