Founded in 1983, Adobe Systems develops, markets, and supports computer software products and technologies. The company offers a line of application software products, type products, and content for creating, distributing, and managing information. Adobe is moving its products to cloud-based versions. Adobe's digital media segment (about 70% of revenue and 80% of gross profit) includes products such as Flash, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Its digital experience segment (24% of revenue and 18% of gross profit) includes a host of tools for creating, managing, and measuring digital advertising and marketing initiatives. The print and publishing unit (less than 5% of revenue) includes authoring and publishing software and tools.
Investment rationale
Adobe believes that creativity is the catalyst for positive change and aims to inspire creativity in people who want to make a meaningful impact on education, the environment and in communities. This is enabled by the digital media segment of the business. We therefore view Adobe's products as enabling technologies for sustainability.
Also on a process level, Adobe creates positive impact in various ways. The company aims at zero CO2 emissions from its facilities and targets to power its operations and the digital delivery of products entirely with renewable electricity by 2035. Furthermore, the company invests in its employees’ and partners’ best ideas for solving social problems and creating positive change. With Project 1324 Adobe also helps youth develop their creative voices through digital storytelling techniques. The project also teaches underprivileged kids how to code, thus stimulating social inclusion.
